What is a qwerty Cell Phone?
filed in News & Stuff on Sep.09, 2008
Although the main function of a mobile phone is to make calls and maybe strike some odd SMS, ever since they appeared on the shelves, we want more and more from them. How about having a phone you could use to read and write your email, blog on the blogger while you’re travelling on the train, read PDF files and even edit Word documents.
Sounds too much like a science fiction? No, it is a reality. A standard qwerty cell phone can do all these things plus you can take pictures, film videos, and of course make calls and write your SMS much faster because in comparison with a “normal” mobile phone, a qwerty cell phone has a full qwerty keyboard. Just like your computer, it’s just much smaller.
But hey, a standard qwerty keyboard is big. These clever devices are not big. They fit nicely in your palm, you can hold it to your ear in a convenient way. A qwerty cell phone is usually not bigger than an i-Phone, yet it has an obvious advantage – nice tactile buttons that allow for much faster typing of an SMS or writing an e-mail.
Shall I rob a bank to buy this? No. In fact, qwerty cell phone prices start in the region of $200 and you can also get it free with a contract. At the moment there is not a plenty to choose from – the qwerty craze has only just begun. The most popular makers of qwerty cell phone are HTC, Blackberry, Nokia and Palm. They have a healthy competition going on amongst each other and expect a good quality.
Although these phones are targeted to business customers, they are affordable enough for just about anyone. You don’t have to be a serious businessman to enjoy the conveniences of a full keyboard phone. In fact, once you get to like the concept, you will never return to a “normal” mobile any more. It just carries you away with those extra functions and you go like: “Hey, how did I ever manage to live without those nice buttons?”
