Wal-Mart to Storm the Cheap Smartphone Market
filed in News & Stuff on Nov.24, 2008
After the shocking news that Wal-Mart would sell the popular Google G1 phone at $149.00 instead of the AT&T original price of $179.00, we have yet another surprise from the worldwide retail giant. They have allegedly grasped another top selling smartphone to offer through their retail chain.
It is rumoured that the cheap smartphone range will be widened by the smash-hit Apple iPhone for $149.00 at the wery end of this year. I will remind you that an iPhone 3G with 8Gb memory is sold for $199.00 at all AT T outlets.
It doesn’t seem so shocking after you learn that Apple would reduce its iPhone price anyway. It only shows how saturated the market is and how reluctant people are about spending money on qwerty cell phones and other luxury goods. Despite the promising sales figures, iPhone just like its rivals will experience the cold months of January and February when people don’t usually buy stuff even in normal circumstances, let alone the current credit crunch climate.
Anyhow, we now see clearly that Wal-Mart is bigger than we initially thought. It is having the Google G1 qwerty cell phone from T-mobile and the iPhone from AT&T on the same shelf and on reduced prices. Here we go!
