RIM BlackBerry Heading for a Disaster?
filed in BlackBerry Phone, News & Stuff on Sep.28, 2008
This should not affect your choice as a customer, but then, I thought you’d like to know this. It is bad news and we all like a bit of bad news. The high-tech company Research In Motion (RIM) - the inventor and producer of BlackBerry qwerty cell phones and devices - is having a tough time on the share markets. Their shares keep losing and losing value. Where a share in RIM was $133 worth back in August 2008, it is $70 now and still sliding down.
The sharp price fall started after the financial statement for quarter 2 was published. It appeared that RIM BlackBerry has missed the sale and development targets (sold less phones than it anticipated) and has not delivered on setting the future targets.
What does it mean for a consumer? RIM will continue making BlackBerry cell phones and it will probably continue to develop, however, the company has not met the expectations. It may be that the reason for the share price fall is the fact that neither of the super BlackBerry qwerty cell phones has proven to be a real i-phone killer.
The high-end features like Wi-Fi, high-definition camera and touch screen is scattered among different phones, where they all needed be included in one cell phone model to provide a full package of features to enjoy. The same problem killed Siemens cell phones, if you remember (when Siemens mobile was an independent company). One Siemens had a calculator but you had to buy another Siemens if you fancied a digital camera, then the third one to have an organizer. Ridiculous, ri-di-cu-lous! Is BlackBerry heading the same direction?
