Motorola – the King of Niche Cell Phones

By admin|Motorola, News & Stuff|Be the first to comment!

How about this bit of news? Is Motorola claiming the title of the king of niche cell phones? There is Motorola ROKR for music lovers, there is Motorola ZN5 Kodak for photographers. Will there be a new qwerty cell phone made especially for social network junkies? According to the latest rumours – there will be.

And it will be based on Google Android platform. As we all know Motorola is a member of Open Handset Alliance – a bunch of companies working together to develop an open source mobile OS. Motorola has been forming a team dealing with Android things and now, according to a job posting at Coroflot.com, they are hiring a designer.

A Senior Staff Interaction Designer to be precise. The most interesting part of this job advertisement says: “you will be responsible for [...] our mobile products including our new Android Social Networking SmartPhone.” Here you have it.

Why did I say it would be a qwerty cell phone? Well, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind when it involves social networking like Facebook, Myspace and other time-killers? Messaging! Writing lots and lots of messages. It is obvious that a full qwerty keyboard would be the only answer. Especially now that Motorola needs to respond to Google Android G1, which has a slide-out qwerty keyboard.

Let’s follow the developments! If the designing process of the new niche cell phone has started now, it may take a year or more for consumers to get their hands on it.
