Google G1 Android

Google G1 Android

Some experts that attended the recent presentation of Google G1 Android cell phone say that there is something missing form the much anticipated G1. It is not revolutionary, it is not magick. Hey, wake up, it is only a phone and its aim is to squeeze the i-Phone out of the market. It is designed to only be a bit (even if it is just a small bit) better than all the rest. Its mission is not to change the world or to end the war. So, let’s look into the specs to see why it is better.

First thing that I notice (being an avid photographer) that Google G1 Android has a 3 Megapixel camera. Now this is something. i-Phone has only 2 Mpix.

The price. Probably one of the most important factors. While you have to dosh out $199 for an Apple i-Phone, Google G1 costs only $179. That’s a big difference for an average customer.

Data input. i-Phone has a touch screen and that is the only option. How about long chunks of text? Forget about it. G1 Dream boasts both a touch-screen and it is a qwerty cell phone with a full keyboard.

Web experience. Google lives on the web, right? So, considering all the experience they have plus their own Android platform that supports and incorporates things like Chrome browser, Google Maps, YouTube, etc, can there be any better device for a fast and easy (I stress both words: fast and easy) web browsing? And then there is an Apple i-Phone with a Safari browser. Safari… oh, well…

Battery life. I am a bit surprised. HTC (the manufacturer behind the G1 project) could do better. i-Phone will have a longer battery life and longer spans between re-charges.

By the way the new Android will be available in white, black and BROWN colours. Very unusual, I would even say, risky. It is expected that T-mobile will have a certain time span of exclusivity to G1 but as the philosophy behind the Android platform suggests it is an open source - designed for masses, so that the developers can improve and add more apps, utilits and software. So it should break away from the grasp of T-mobile in the nearest future.

Google G1 Android phone will become available for consumers as of October 22, 1978.
