BlackBerry - Brandname for a qwerty cell phone and other handheld smartphones produced by RIM (Research in Motion) of Canada. Blackberry is the most popular among the similar phones and its name has entered the pop-cultures.

CDMAone or CDMA1 - a digital mobile standard first introduced by Qualcomm. It is a 2G (2nd generation) standard and uses multiple access channels to send voice and other data. CDMA is used by approximately 13% of cell phone users in USA, New Zealand and China. CDMA phones are not compatible with GSM networks.

Dvorak - a keyboard layout introduced by scientist August Dvorak in 1936 to fight with typist’s fatigue. Despite of obvious conveniences, it never became popular.

GSM - a cellular standard for mobile phones. GSM is one of the oldest and the most popular cell phone standards in the world. Used by 80% of mobile phone users worldwide. Cellular means that the mobile phone sends signals to find an antenna from the closest cell. A cell is an area formed by antennas on its borders.

  • HTC - Abbreviation from High Tech Computer Corporation - a unique Taiwan based company founded and run by a powerful woman Cher Wang. HTC makes qwerty cell phones and a wide array of other smartphones. It was established in 1997 and now operates with almost 5,000 employees and generates revenues of up to $ 3.5 billion. Maker of the all time favourite HTC 620 qwerty cell phone.

Q

  • Qwerty - a name for a typical modern day keyboard derived from the firs six letters from its top row. It was first introduced by American journalist Christopher Scholes. Learn more about Qwerty history.
  • Qwerty cell phone - a smartphone that has full set of qwerty keyboard keys instead of chorded 10 keys as usual. These phones usually feature business worthy capabilities including Word document editing, high resolution digital camera, internet browser, navigation and other things.
