BlackBerry Curve 8310 Cell Phone
filed in BlackBerry Phone on Sep.23, 2008
The smallest and lightest BlackBerry ever but does this qwerty cell phone deliver? When it comes to design and ergonomics, there are few cell phones that beat BlackBerry, although some HTC users have found the famous BlackBerry Trackball navigation a little confusing. What I think, it just takes time to get used to it and once you have, the Trackball actually is a very neat thing.
Memory and OS
It is still a BlackBerry own OS and from the previous version of 8300 Cell Phone it only differs with some little additional functions. Standard 64 Mb memory is on-board and then you can add 8 Gb via a simple MicroSD card slot.
Multimedia and Socializing
You got a 2 Megapixel camera on board and it has a LED flash plus a 5 x digital zoom. In fact, Blackberry Curve 83100 Cell Phone makes some decent images and when you travel occasionally, you don’t need to drag your heavy digital camera with you. I will repeat myself, you won’t make any art photos if you let other people know you’ve done it with a BlackBerry, but if you remove the EXIF tags and just present your pictures, you will find it amusing that many of your friends will actually praise your images and ask, hey, was it an Olympus?
This is a BlackBerry, right? So - the most important thing is real-time e-mail checking and instant messaging. You will be able to use the BlackBerry network or socialize via your favourite instant messaging network like AOL and MSN. BlackBerry is all about communication, so you won’t be cut off even if you’re travelling outside your country. Just double-check with your provider if it supports international roaming.
If you are on AT&T, lucky you. Use your Blackberry Curve 8310 cell phone like a walkie-talkie - like you did when a child. With AT&T Push-to-talk you can do that.
This qwerty cell phone boasts one of the most convenient qwerty keyboards available. It will allow you to type your messages, write e-mails and edit documents with a really nice speed (not as good as a HTC though, people with large thumbs will find a BlackBerry keys a bit slippery). And now moreover - you have a spell checker. This is a feature that doesn’t come with many Windows Mobile based cell phones. Express yourself freely - the spell checker will notice the mistakes.
BlackBerry Curve 8310 features the usual software package including a video player, a MP3 player and document editors. Volume control, unlike the ridiculous Joggr by HTC, really allows you to control the volume of MP3 playback without wanting to crash the device at the wall.
Is There Some GPS Around?
Yes, with Blackberry qwerty cell phone you get an in-built GPS navigation tool that supports TeleNav software. Maybe for some, especially Europeans, this GPS will not feel as good as that of Nokia E71 but then, TeleNav is a decent program and it really delivers.
Cons?
You will have to re-set all the default noises and alerts if you want to keep your mind alive. BlackBerry Curve 8310 cell phone will beep, chirp, fart, burp at every e-mail message, calendar event it sees. Ever fancied a canary-bird? Don’t bother, just buy a BlackBerry qwerty cell phone and let it entertain you. If you receive many e-mails a day, you will want to disable the sounds.
It is not a Windows Mobile device, eventually you will find it crashing a couple of times a day. Sometimes it is annoying but you will get used to it.
Don’t drop it on the floor, it is not a HTC cell phone. A BlackBerry has a plastic case (as opposite to a rubbered one of a HTC 620) and when you drop it, the cell phone will crack.
Don’t worry about the earphone volume. It is more or less the same for each qwerty cell phone and other smartphones. They are sometimes oh so quiet. Forget about using it in a noisy environment - just ask ‘em to call back later.
Bottomline
Blackberry Curve 83100 cell phone is a great device. You will get all you want from a business-based qwerty cell phone but then I keep re-iterating that a smartphone is not only for businessmen, it is a very nice everyday phone that gets you hooked and entertained.
